Historically Den Bosch is one of the most important towns of the south of the Netherlands. In the Middle Ages it was a major religious and political centre but after the reformation it lost some of its economic importance to the cities in Holland. The Cathedral is one of the main attractions of the city. The area around the cathedral has many old houses and small streets lined with shops, restaurants and bars. This is the best area to spend your time.

The city has recently been promoting its links with the world-famous painter, Hieronymus Bosch, and each year organises a wide range of cultural and sporting events such as Jazz in Duketown, The Boulevard Theatre Festival, the Tennis Trophy in Rosmalen, the gourmet festival Bourgondisch ’s-Hertogenbosch which used to be known as the Proeverij and the Liberation Festival.
