Centre Céramique
The Centre Céramique functions as a central meeting place on the border between the historic Wyck district and the new Céramique neighbourhood - for young and old alike, for visitors as well as locals. The public library collection, with over 500,000 books, magazines and audiovisual resources, is the best-known component of Centre Céramique.
But there is much more: frequently-changing exhibitions, collections of archaeological artefacts and artworks, a reading café with a view of the city, free use of the Internet, interesting lectures and concerts etc. It's all there under one roof. The exterior of this eccentric building is also worth paying attention to. You can even join an architectural tour to learn more about this striking building, designed by the architect Jo Coenen, as well as the trendy Céramique district. And the Centre Céramique is very close to the Bonnefanten Museum, the Het Vervolg theatre, and the Netherlands Architecture Institute – a broad range of culture just a stone's throw from each other.
Marres
Based on a programme of exhibitions & video displays, lectures, performances and discussions, Marres aims to initiate a discourse between artists, intermediaries and the public.
Bonnefantenmuseum
It is definitely an eye-catcher on the banks of the Meuse: the building designed by the Italian architect Aldo Rossi with the striking dome-shaped tower, home to the Bonnefanten Museum. Inside, you will find major art collections, providing overviews of historic as well as contemporary art, distributed over two floors. In addition to pieces from the museum's own collection, the collection of historic art also contains works from the collection of the National Gallery in Amsterdam. Due to this combination, the historic collection tells the story of painting in the 16th and 17th centuries in the Southern Netherlands better than ever before. Absolute highlights of the collection include masterpieces by the Flemish masters Rubens, Van Dyck and Jordaens. The collection also contains a beautiful medieval sculpture by Jan van Steffeswert, early Italian paintings from Sienna, Florence and Venice, and an enchanting collection of Maastricht silverwork.
Works by prominent artists from the American school of minimal art and the Italian Arte Povera form the basis for the collection of contemporary art - an internationally oriented collection of new works, including room-filling installations by artists such as Sol LeWitt, Richard Serra and Luciano Fabro. And after visiting the museum, you can sit back and relax on Ipanema’s outdoor terrace overlooking the Meuse and enjoy a bite to eat and a drink before taking a stroll through the trendy Céramique district.
Brewery De Keyzer NA Bosch
This traditional brewery, which was in operation until 1970, is still almost completely intact and is an important industrial historical monument. The former brewery as well as the five-storey high malt chamber has the status of a protected national monument. The brewery equipment and accessories are representative of the 1900-1920 period.
The Historic Printshop Museum The Historic Printshop Museum is located in a 19th-century house with an inner courtyard and a chapel in the centre of Maastricht. Here you will find a unique historic printing establishment dating from around 1900. The chapel structure houses various exhibitions with a focus on the art of printing. During the guided tour, you are treated to a historic overview of the art of printing - with the help of various materials, tools and printing presses - ranging from the first book-blocks to etchings by Rembrandt and litho prints by Toulouse Lautrec. Several old printing presses are still operational.
