Amsterdam RAI won the Sustainable Initiative of the Year award for its corporate sustainability policy at the 15th AEO (Association of Exhibition Organisers) Excellence Awards on Friday the 19th of June in London. The Excellence Awards are presented annually to businesses that make outstanding contributions to the exhibition industry. Amsterdam RAI was shortlisted in the ‘Sustainable Initiative’ category, where it faced stiff competition from seven other nominees including Fira de Barcelona and Reed Exhibitions.

In announcing its decision, the jury commented that: “Amsterdam RAI has brought its business bang up to date with a range of sustainable and measurable initiatives over the last 12 months. This is a fantastic achievement over such a short period.”

In addition to recognising the current corporate sustainability policies at Amsterdam RAI, this award also honours the fact that business decisions have never been taken based purely on economic grounds at Amsterdam RAI. “The social impact of our activities on the city and the region has always played an important part in our long history,“ comments Denise Capello, Business Development Manager at Amsterdam RAI.

“As we enter an era of sustainable investments, the RAI’s influence on society and the environment is more relevant than ever. This is one of the reasons why we translated our goals into a CSR policy. Amsterdam RAI aims to become the leader in the European conference and events industry with regards to sustainability and CSR within the next five years. We feel it is important to serve our organisers in the most sustainable way; according to Capello.”

This is the third time Amsterdam RAI is recognised for its sustainability policy. In 2008 the RAI received the Green Key and Green Globe Award.
