| Kunsthal Rotterdam Modern Life - Edward Hopper and His Time |
In the fall of 2009 the Kunsthal presents a survey of over seventy paintings by, amongst others, Edward Hopper, Georgia O'Keeffe, Milton Avery and Lyonel Feininger from the collection of the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York. The exhibition provides the audience with a clear perspective upon the developments within art in America at the beginning of the twentieth century. At the exhibition work by Hopper is put into the framework of works by his contemporaries: the Ash Can School, Regionalists and Modernists. Both realist paintings by, for example, Robert Henri and John Sloan and more abstract works by amongst others Man Ray and Stuart Davis show the rapid rise of metropolitan New York and the blistering excitement of urban life. |
